Day 139: A tale of two Minfilias

公開

The desert winds blew as Annabel looked at the old ruins that were in front of them. These ancient dwellings held mysteries of the past, but all the young blonde cared about at the moment was the mystery of what was going to happen in the near future.

Nearby, young Minfilia stood waiting, staring at those same ruins, her thoughts her own. It wasn't hard to guess what they were though. It was time to call her, call Minfilia herself and see if she would answer. From the talk she had had with the spirit, Annabel knew she would, knew Minnie would come to the young girl when summoned. She STILL thought it wasn't a good idea, but she had no say in this no veto power. This was young Minnie's choice, young Minnie's decision, for good or bad. Annabel very much hoped it would not lean towards bad.

"Are you ready dear?" Annabel's voice was questioning, a little hesitant. Minnie nodded, "yes Miss Annabel, ready as I will ever be. I....I know I'm making the right choice, we NEED this and I am not afraid to do what needs to be done."

"But I am dear," Annabel countered, "I'm afraid and I'm not afraid to say it. I have sworn to a friend to protect you from all that may being you harm, but it seems I can't protect you from your own decisions." Annabel sighed and shook her head. "I don't know, I just feel like I failed for some reason, failed her, failed you in not giving you the advice to keep you from DOING this. You think after being around two sisters for as long as I have, I would be better at dealing with women."

"Miss Annabel," young Minfilia said shocked, "don't SAY things like that! You haven't failed ANYONE, most of all ME! You've been a wonderful influence on me, and your advice has been very helpful. But I'm NOT a child Miss Annabel, I am NOT someone to baby and shield from the world. If I am going to be my own person with my own thoughts I will need to be not afraid to make my OWN decisions, even if they are hard ones."

Annabel moved towards the younger blonde and put a slender hand on her shoulder. "I know Minnie, which is why I am not trying to stop you. I know it wouldn't be right. This has to be all you or your actions will mean nothing. I'll say it again, are you ready?"

Young Minnie nodded, her face one of certainty. "Yes, I am. It must be done Miss Annabel, for you, and for me."

Annabel tried not to show worry on her beautiful face, she probably failed. "Well, lets get this over with. I'll be over here in case you need me," pointing to a place nearby. Giving the young girl a smile of reassurance, Annabel moved away then turned to watch the proceedings.

She watched as young Minnie closed her eyes, concentrated, then looked up at something she could only see it seemed. Then she was bathed in light, pure and radiant. It enveloped her, flowing around like something alive, then focused into a point and formed something very familiar to Annabel herself, Minfilia.

She wasn't surprised that she could see the spirit, after all, the thing was a part of her. It WAS surprising though to see the two of them together, old and young. Annabel was always snarky to Minnie, always saying how old she was and a hag. But seeing the two of them together, their blonde hair of spun gold, their eyes, their essence, Annabel knew how much of a falsehood those comments really were. Her friend was beautiful, beautiful as the purest light, and deep down the young Blonde felt just a bit jealous of that.

The two Minfilias just looked at one another for a minute, each taking the other in. Minnie had said she was not going to make the attempt to talk to her younger self, but here she was now. Annabel wondered what she was thinking. Was she worried? Curious? Thoughtful? Annabel would guess all three. Whatever was going through her mind, Minfilia would have to sort it out herself.

"It's nice to finally meet you," Minfilia said to her younger self. "I've been watching you from afar, watching you try to make something of yourself. You have come a young way dear and it is a very brave thing you are doing now."

The young girl was hesitant at first, then spoke. "Thank you, I....I wasn't sure what would happen, but I knew I HAD to do it, summon you. I tried my best, but I need what you can give me. to help the others, to help HER." She raised her small hand and pointed it at Annabel and both turned to look at her.

Seeing that she was the object of their attention now, Annabel gave a halfhearted smile and wave. "Hello Minnie"

The younger of the two women looked shocked, "Miss Annabel, you can SEE her?"

Annabel nodded, "Unfortunately yes. Minfilia and I are VERY acquainted, sometimes to the point of annoyance, but I deal with it the best I can."

Minfilia pursed her lips, "ignore her dear, Annabel has little to say usually and what she DOES say is mostly an annoyance. I'm sorry you had to put up with her."

Annabel opened her mouth to say something then thought better of it and closed it again, forming it instead into an annoyed pout. She did not want to get into another argument with her 'friend', this was not the time or place.

Young Minnie, for her part, just looked at the older Minfilia in surprise. "Miss Annabel? Oh no, she's been nothing but kind and helpful to me. And you should have SEEN all she has done for this world. Without her we would have had no hope to succeed."

Minfilia just gave the girl a small, slightly condescending smile. "Oh I know dear, I know ALL about what 'Miss Annabel' is capable of. Don't mind us, it's just what we 'do' around one another." She turned back to Annabel asking, "I trust Annabel that you won't interfere with this?"

Annabel shook her head, "No Minnie, of course I won't. We both decided it was her decision to make for good or bad. I will just pray that it goes well." The look on Annabel's face betrayed her thoughts and it was obvious the young woman was worried.

Minfilia turned back to her younger doppelganger. "If you are ready, now is as good a time as ever to do this. Do you remember the procedure?" The younger Minfilia nodded. "yes, I'm ready.....and I'm sorry."

Minfilia looked surprised, "for what?"

"For having to DO this to you, because I...I want to make a difference in my OWN life....Young Minnie shook her head negativity. "I don't know, saying it like that, it all seems so selfish, so foolish."

"Minfilia," the older woman retorted, "it is NOT selfish when what you want to do is to help others. I know this is the main reason why you are doing this. You want to help Annabel, be more useful to her." She gave the girl a genuine smile. "I also want you to know that I am OK with this, that I accept whatever happens." Minfilia made a motion with her hands to the girl. "Now, no more excuses, Annabel is waiting for us, for you to do what needs to be done. That silly girl is VERY impatient you know."

"Cute Minnie," Annabel called back from where she waited. Damn that ghost, so she WAS impatient, what of it? They WERE taking FOREVER to get this done and this desert was NO fun to be in.

Young Minfilia gave the older woman a final sad smile, then closed her eyes. After a few moments, she started glowing and the spirit of Minfilia Warde soon followed. The light from the 2 Minfliias was so bright Annabel had to shade her eyes, then look away completely. Soon the light faded and it was....over? At least Annabel thought so as she blinked away the spots from her eyes.

What had happened? Was Minnie gone? Was the spirit that had plagued her life for better or for worse for over a year and a half gone forever? Was her friend......gone?
A well of conflicting emotions rose up in Annabel confusing her. She found this unexpected and surprising. Why was she sad? Had Minfliia really meant THAT much to her? That annoying woman, spirit, whatever was SUCH a pain, always bugging her, always butting in where she was not wanted. She was such.....such....Annabel could not continue. She just stopped and stared, looking at nothing, lost in her own troubled thoughts.

Faerie [Aether]

Wow, this one is REALLY unbalanced on views, hardly anyone is looking at the 2nd part of it compared to the first part.

Too bad, I thought it was one of my better writing efforts.
