I like the fact that WHM is not complicated.

If one looks in the healer section of the Forums, (and you REALLY shouldn't! It is an awful, AWFUL place! ), you will sometimes see people complaining about the lack of complexity of healing jobs, specifically White Mage. They complain that there is NO challenge in anything White Mage does, from healing to attacking, they pick apart my beloved job and demean it.
They want changes! They want a more complex attack rotation! Have more interesting and varied ways to heal! And the always, Lilies SUCK, change them!
I see this crap and I just shake my head, sigh, and ask......why? Why does White mage NEED to be this complex healer, have a complex rotation of this, that, and everything?
Why does the job HAVE to be......hard?
"But Annabel, you lover of everything lazy", my non fans say. "White Mage is BORING! It is sooooo dull, dull, dull to play. I practically fall asleep with my two button attacks and two button heals! I want a challenge with my jobs!"
And yes my dear Annabel haters, I DO understand that. I know the simplicity of how White Mage works is not for everyone. Not everyone wants the nice, mellow attack rotation, easy ways to heal, and relaxing zen that my beloved job brings. They want difficulty, they want complexity, they want to think.
Well they used to HAVE options in the form of Scholar and Ast. Those jobs gave people the complexity and rotations that they craved, and this was a GOOD thing. It gave the people somewhere to go and still get their healing fix in, and white Mage got left to those who did not want that.
But we all know what ended up happening. Yes people, the other two jobs got changed and changed HARD. Their complexity was nerfed and the whole thing was made to be more like White Mage, and BOY did the healing community Bitch about that!
Now this saddened me, it REALLY did. I honestly sympathize with those like my dear friend Aria who loved Scholar in its original form. Those who really liked how the AST cards worked. Now those people have nowhere to go to get what they want and they are abandoning healer completely because of it.
But back to White Mage. Of all the healing jobs, White Mage is the only one that is not really messed up now, it is what it is SUPPOSED to be. Yes, the attack is simple. Yes the standard healing is easy too. It is nice and straightforward, no figuring out what to do with pets, cards, complex chains of abilities. It is a nice and relaxing job for people who want to enjoy healing and relax.
Seriously, not everything in life has to be hard and make you think constantly. not everything has to be a constant challenge. There are times for it and times one does not want it. Not everything has to be for you and the way you want it. White Mage was not made for those that want a constant challenge, it was made for those that DON'T!
So STOP wanting to CHANGE it! Instead demand that SE fix those jobs that gave you what you wanted. Get them to put the complexity back into Scholar and AST; get them to make them jobs people WANT to play again.
And leave White Mage ALONE, it's perfect the way it is!
My honest opinion is that we have seen a flux in healer>tank requirements because healing is at the moment the most difficult task in game(aside from playing monk)
Everyone will say things like “well we did not get a new one so no one plays healer” or that the dps changes have made healing feel stale.
Imo it’s a lack of wanting to deal with the difficultly from most players. Tanking is much easier today, I would even argue it’s rhe easiest job to play. But healer is not.
I was talking more about the difficulty of the jobs mechanics and rotations then how healers haw to deal with people in groups. That's a whole other 'kettle of fish'.
Compared to the other healers, White Mage is MUCH easier to learn, which in turn makes some people think it's 'boring' with its simplicity.
my point is actually that healers already have the more difficult job atm. Adding too it is a stupid idea.
They could have more damage but, eventually it turns into requirement
I honestly wonder if most of them there actually heal at all. .
WHM is easy mode only because it has the most instant heals and get them the earliest. I dont think the core aspect of healing is difficult in terms of design.. Its only as difficult as the other 3/6/21 people make it. Yes included the co healers as well.
The core aspect of healing is not hard, pretty much someone gets hurt you heal them. But it's the external factors that change the difficulty.
Tanks making big pulls, Players not positioning themselves correctly, Hard instances, under geared jobs, all these change the difficulty of healing.
Yes, even with the other 2 jobs, the basic healing is not THAT hard. It's when you throw in the SCH's Aether crap and pet abilities and the AST's cards and tricks that make you have to think more then WHM.
Yeah I like WHM too because the class being simple allow me to focus on the things that are hard for me - AKA the mechanics of the fights. Yeah, when I'm just going through the motions of a low-level dungeons I've run through a gazillion times, it may feel a little boring (although I'll never get bored of spamming Holy *v*) - but when I'm trying to clear something new and difficult, boy am I ever glad to be able to focus all my 3 brain cells on it.
I started the game as a conjurer and worked my way up to white mage. Got the class up to level 60 way before I finished ARR (which only happened recently.) My favorite part about it is the instant queue pop when you're doing dungeons or you're progressing through the story and you're required to do a raid and such. I like the ability to rez random adventurers or heal a player I see struggling. Playing white mage has given me a lot of little freedoms and I'm glad I picked it up and stuck with it.
That being said, I would never call it a fun job by any means. It's work. You do it the job and you do it well, and that's it.
I spent so much time just mindlessly following the tank and starring only at the health bars of my team and the enemies that I didn't even realize most of the ARR dungeons had mechanics until I started the dancer class. I died constantly while doing the msq, and I was frustrated by how handicapped the white mage is when doing solo fights. [Disclaimer:might just be me.]
