The Journey into Savage 15A casual scrub's raiding misadventures
Today in the E4S learning party, I ran into a WHM I met during last week's practice and co-tank that I played with in yesterday's learning party. We had a great practice session. This party consistently made it through phase 1 in good condition, and after 90 minutes of practice, we mastered phase 2 and saw Orogenesis (phase 3) for the first time. Despite it only being a learning party, firepower was acceptable as well, with Titan at 71% before transition and 52% at the 6 min burn phase, not bad for a party using no dps potions. I hope I meet them again!
Anyway, today for the first time I encountered some mild unpleasantness during weekly clear. It was E2S, and the PF description said something like "quick, competent kills". Generally, I prefer not to join parties that ask for one-shot, high dps or high skill level. I hope that I never think of myself as having high skill level or high dps, because it will mean I have become complacent. However, this was the party closest to full, and I wanted to clear before bed, so I joined. Predictably, there were 2 wipes due to careless mistakes. PF leader commented "High DPS but low brainpower" and disbanded party. Oh well. I joined another party, and we killed it in 2 pulls, easy!
It is the first of October. I made a resolution to join practice parties for E4S every day, and once I have mastered the last major mechanic of phase 3, to attempt to clear. The progress I made over the last few days energized me, and I feel a kind of nervous excitement again, the feeling that you get when a goal is just slightly out of reach but you know you are capable of seizing it.
It's tempting to rush for the clear. At the same time, I would like to clear in a normal way, without doing desperate things like begging weekly clear parties to let me in, or making a PF set to "Duty Complete" (i.e. only allowing players that have cleared to join) without having cleared myself. Or maybe I am a fool, trying to be choosy about what kind of clear he wants, who will soon regret his words when he is still struggling to clear in 5.1. Lol!
I remember what Rytlockie, one of the Primal BA discord raid leaders with over 50 BA clears, said to me: "Do not rush, do not be hasty. Be patient and you will get the clear." I choose to have faith that those who have done their part and learned the fight properly will eventually clear no matter what.
Don't get bitter, just get better! Let's clear together next time!Next: A Test of Character >>
