Espys Thoughts on Censorship

公開
Hello Loves!

Thank you for stopping by to read this little blog.

Warning-Slight Rant, with a lot of personal opinions and views are within this blog. If you are not interested, I will understand you not reading but <3 you anyway! ^^;

************

So for this little blog post I wanted to bring up Censorship in gaming and how I disapprove of such. I know before I even type this out, what I may think or feel about such topics is irrelevant because it will matter little and be just another blog about blah blah blah opinions. However, I do not get to voice this stuffs irl to anyone due to issues, and this is more of a stress relief to me. (I enjoy listening to the keys as I type.)

To start, we all probably know Why censorship is in gaming. Or more or less, why it once was in gaming. Back when games like Mortal Kombat and DOOM came into play (forgive the pun) we were subjected to questioning, is this really an okay thing for children to be playing? After all, back in those days gaming was considered a child thing to do. Something you would never have time for once you reached a certain age and moved on in the world.

Many still do so, but more often today are games being designed with the intent to play over the age of 17-18. The ESRB ratings have helped much in this design and allowed for parents from the 90s to current to judge quickly if their children should be allowed to play such games. Personally I was lucky to even have a N64 when I was young because my mother was convinced games were the devils work, keep such logic when watching a plumber grab a dinosaur by the tail and toss him. What I mean by this is, thanks nintendo for allowing me to play games when I was young. Anywho, that is merely just one prime example of a parent over-reacting upon something.

This was however often due to the parents not really understanding how to gauge video games until and even after the ESRB ratings were a forced item on every video game, with descriptions of what the game has. Through out the years however, we have add more censorship to them as well. Now the censorship I am speak of is based upon United States censorship. Many regions have many different types be it due to religion, culture or law. My issue with such censorships today is the factor of which keeps tapping at the back of my head every time I might come across it.

We are the generation of parents today and we have Far more means to find out what kind of game our children may be playing. Not only that, but in most cases we are the ones who experienced it before They did. The parents today are Often more capable of telling you what games your children should or should not be allowed to play then even the ESRB! So the question is now, why are things still as censored as they are right now? Do we seriously still need politics and companies to "parent" us?

Is it perhaps the lacking will to BE the parent and say no or take responsibility? Should such things as politics and religious beliefs have an effect upon the content of which we, grown up human beings as well(depending on who you're asking) are allowed to see today? Well, I suppose that is for us to decide someday. However, when you think about it, video games are an art. Development and art design goes deep into Everything said creators put into the game they design.

Therefore, is it right to censor art? Art comes in many different means, from actual pictures, to writing, to music and so on. Should this be something we allow when in reality, it is wrong to do? What I find odd about todays censorship is how we quickly went from blood, gore and violence being the biggest subject of debate, too nudity being the ultimate taboo.

Not just any nudity mind you, Gal nudity. From suggestive theme costumes to flat out standing about naked from the back, it is apparently considered more and more unacceptable.

(Espi, wut the eff gal, what brought all this on? Why you obsessing over it!?)

Well, it has been a number of things over the past few years, but honestly more so in this year alone. From Nier Automatas "Contraversy" for showing 2Bs butt in her leotard, to todays DMC5 ps4 Lady and Trish butt lights. Much of these not only seems unnecessary, but invasive. Maybe comical at times, but how far will it go? Now we have people demanding the girl Dancer gear have more to it and not show so much skin because apparently that's bad.

I realize Western releases are not specific to just North America. What I do not understand is why such is being forced in general in north american region however. The controversy surrounding Trish butt was purely based however upon Sony NA and there increased censorship. So I have to wonder, why is it okay to alter the game, the art, just to appease your beliefs?

Today we are getting More female protagonists and antagonists to play for video games, where not so long ago, it was very man oriented, likely due to the statistics of men being the most gamers. Yet while this is happening, we are seeing more and more censorship to said characters. In my opinion it is okay to not like what she is wearing if it's a bit to risky or revealing for you. We live in a gaming era where you can change those outfits! Yut constantly we are being reminded that females represent sex symbols and that this is a bad thing that should be censored and stopped.

Why though? Is she somehow a representation of all women to you? Does she represent a threat to you? What makes it so taboo to strut your stuff as a woman in video games? The fact that men play them? Should the same be considered when we play men?

Before I end this, I will state a few things to kind of keep things on a real thought. Yes I find tanking in perhaps a bikini a bit unorthadox. (Said while wearing armor bikini in game on paladin.) However, if it fits whatever you might want, story wise, or roleplay or whatever you may be into, it is not my place to judge nono.

Yes, I realize your kids Will find a way around you and see what they want to see. You realize this too however. You did it yourself! What I mean is, you are not an idiot, so do not act like one! So what if she or he gets to see bewbs and penis in their teens? At least they have a healthy curiosity. Maybe they won't grow up to be the socially awkward people we grew up to be.

Should we censor more things like violence? Well, maybe don't watch someone play Resident Evil when you are 10 and have nightmares the rest of your life. However at the same time, we have done enough studies to prove violence in video games has no effect linked to mass shootings or anything of that sort.

I may be speaking for myself on it, but I do think it inappropriate to let children play shooter games such as Call of Duty or modern warfare or anything where you may be killing other human beings. However games like Halo I personally find to be okay due to it being scifi and unrealistic. Does that make me wrong? Perhaps, but I do think games make us desensitized to certain things after a while. Maybe it would not be a bad thing to show some skin more often if it desensitized people a bit?

I mean does anyone remember that one time Shtola was rescued from the lifestream and shows up naked off camera? How many people were like "wait what?!"

Then their is the lodestone here. I write a lot of stories here but often I find myself censoring what I write because I know the lodestone does not allow for certain things and you can get reported for it! Getting reported on lodestone also effects your game for XIV and you will share a suspension. Does this seem right? Does it seem fair? It hinders the work sometimes but often I also tend to keep out such things because, I worry of offending people and readers.

If their is something like rape, is not something I have Exactly experienced though I have had some unpleasant moments, nothing to compare. However I know it is not something actual victims like to read nor think about so On that kind of censorship, I easily understand.

Just my thoughts on the subject. If you wish to comment, you may! Please be respectful to others and myself however. We are all entitled to our opinions and thoughts and yours is welcome as well.

Till next time! <3 <3 Loves yus yus ^^

Funnily enough I was wondering about this a few days ago when I was looking for Glamours for "traditional samurai style" when I actually get to that point. The real joke of this is FF14 isn't even the worst offender, there are a few instances which push boundaries, but what the glamour has shown me is that sexy or practical is a personal choice in this game.

We, as parents should all really be more responsible overall about this (but then that may just be society talking) but things like a certain OATH alliance should not be installing spyware onto your system to monitor things (I had to agree to the thing in order to host my pictures offsite).

I remember your Esper Glams ( which I miss ) and understand why you shy away from posting them.
Your stories, Victoria's Secret, and whole host of other's always pushed the limits on their blogs, then the censorship plague decimated our numbers. Now there were a couple of people that were flat out dicks and were perceived "cool kids", and somehow got a pass for being a dick. Alas the ban hammer hit them hard. Can't say I miss them. Other's that had were banned erroneously..

Lolo Menehune

Siren [Aether]

that had been egged on and found THEMSELVES incorrectly banned.
So this censorship is a very fine line. We do know children will read/ visit this collection of blogs..does that mean we have to be on pins and needles with our posted content? Within reason yes.
A simple flag of *Mature only should be tied to the account and lock out underage viewing ensue.
We as parents are responsible for our kids, coversly we are responsible for also ignoring content that we deem "unappropriate", not SE.

@lolo
Honestly I merely stopped posting glamour blogs because I was not satisfied with the pictures I would make. Finally the gpose stuff has increased enough that I am able to now, however it does lead to some attention sometimes from the people whom hate stuff like that.

Though I do tend not to post things more revealing anymore. Maybe I’ll do one of my current glams soon?

And agreed, with both of you so far. What I should state is how much I’m bothered by not having that control myself.

After all, we purchase the product, we should enjoy it as intended yus yus? Their is also the nudity patches and all but well, I’ll not get into that because that’s an entire different subject

Personally, I just don't like censorship. It is not possible, but I wish FFXIV is restrict to 18+, so we can just post 18+ blog, or have those glamour without worrying there are 12 year olds out there.

We don't show certain content to a minor in real life, are we sure we want to share it in a game? The problem is we don't know who is underage here and have no way to restrict access. I do think parents have responsibility to oversee their kids online, but in reality, they rarely do the job.

Diabolos [Crystal]

Where I agree with you, I think more would take charge of the situation if they were held responsible rather then the company.

The idea that the company needs to check itself instead of the parents is absurd. Plus just as said, theirs no way to avoid it, unless you mean to not have internet. Even then, their is always the friend who does and they see it at there house.

It’s hard to blame games when they have warnings. Or book writers, anime, manga, media. Maybe mmo games should have warnings

Famfrit [Primal]

The ESRB rating is in place for a reason. Tbh, I feel like censorship could ruin an otherwise perfect game. Im not saying let 10 year olds play games with nekkid people and a lot of explicit content. But I'm an adult. I wanna see some stuff that gets me hyped. And not have a build up just to have it fall flat because it looked too "offensive"

Esper Eidolon

Diabolos [Crystal]

Exactly, but at the same time mr mana, you have already seen said games. You know what you don’t want your kids to see.

That’s the age we live in yus yus
