I just began my Final Fantasy adventure recently and am really enjoying it so far. I consider myself a casual player who loves to immerse in the fantasy atmosphere and storyline while still seeking efficient progression. Any tips from veterans and other newcomers alike to maximise my experience in this masterpiece of a game?

Hi and welcome to FFXIV! For the immersion part, I'd say make a point to stop and pay attention to the scenery. This game has some seriously amazing landscapes and it's too easy to just zoom past all of it as you go from one quest marker to the next.
I also recommend talking to NPCs that aren't related to quests, because often they have really interesting bits of lore to share.
