Ok so I'm checking out the FFXIV companion app and apparently I have a blog thing? Sweet!

Well just in case anyone ever reads it, I guess an introduction is in order.

I first tried FFXIV years ago, but for quickly bored of all the running around Limsa Limosa. I'm not really a fantasy fan - orcs, goblins, treeants don't really do it for me, so I stopped playing at lvl12 and went in search of an MMORPG that was more "me". Over the years I've tried all the big ones - Destiny was exactly what I wanted but it didn't seem to have much of a solo story. Star Trek and Star Wars Online were disappointing, I do enjoy STO but Even as a Trek fan, it doesn't "grab" me. I love the ships, but the ground stuff looks like it's running on a PS2. Star Wars isn't any better; good story but still not grabbing me. I put a lot of time into BDO because the life systems in it are amazing, but too much fantasy stuff and the combat was frustrating - I'm a casual gamer but you need to be able to remember all the key and mouse combos to do well.
Phantasy Star 2 is enjoyable at first but it's 100% dungeons and nothing else. Ok there's a casino but I got bored when I realised it was all dungeons and little else.
I kept looking for "good" MMOs, something I could get excited about the way my daughter gets excited about all the forthcoming updates to her Roblox games, and all I saw was FFXIV Everywhere. So I watched a few Youtube videos and saw everyone rave about the story - so I gave it another go on the new free trial.

It's so much better than I remembered! Sticking to the MSQ was the best tip I saw, and I'm glad I did. I was a bit disappointed it was all fantasy UNTIL I saw a cutscene WITH SPACESHIPS!!! There's technology! They have Comms (linkpearls) and there's a casino and proper crafting and houses and fashion shows and a marketplace and retainers and SO MUCH COOL STUFF and yes so I played the free trial for a week and have just bought all the current content and I'm fully converted.
