Not everyone can do Savages and Ultimates

公開
THE CONTEXT

A while ago in my former FC, we had two people join, one of them being a person who enjoys doing MINE runs and the other being a quite famous Ultimate Raider. Both of them are my friends and I will not speak badly about them, but I will say that their way of viewing other players and how much dedication they can have in terms of raiding has sparked discussions with me who I am of the opposite opinion.
------------

While I understand that from their point of view, many people who join this game do so to raid for the fun of it and improve for the sake of improving, I don't believe that is necessarily the case. A lot of people WANT to get into Savage raiding or clear an Ultimate, but due to several factors, like lack of skill, lack of focus, lack of time or lack of interest (maybe a combination of all of these), they may find themselves biting off more than they can chew.

I believe the percentile of people who attempt Savage raiding is around 20-25% with about 40% of those actually clearing a fight and around 50% of those going on and becoming Ultimate Raiders... that is an estimated 2-3% of the player-base here, but even that number sounds a little far-fetched.

Truth of the matter is, if it's not mindset it's time that keeps people from being committed to any sort of high end raiding. Because let's face it, in order to clear any sort of Savage or Ultimate content you have to invest an ungodly amount of time wiping over and over and over on the same boss, for hours on end.
--------------

Some people have the mental fortitude for that. I however do not.

I am part of those people who are unwilling to invest an ungodly amount of time into this, because the effort required is too much for the reward.

In the case of Savages is to be prepared for the next raid tier - i.e. what I deem raiding for the sake of raiding, you get geared so that you can continue to raid in the future, so you're not even doing so for a reward that you can get now, you are doing it so you can get access to something that isn't out yet, content that you won't even know you're still gonna do in 6 month's time when the next raid tier comes out.

For Ultimates, it's shiny weapons.

Ok ok ok. Being a relic collector, the idea of new shinies does tempt me, but again, the effort put into learning the fights for this is quite high, plus it presupposes knowing both your class and the fight inside and out.

I personally can learn a fight pretty well and execute mechanics quite well as well. What I can't do well is play my class well WHILE I execute mechanics. Because I'm a clicker most of my time is spent watching my hotbars, getting prepared to click on the next button to press, and because of that I sometimes fail to notice mechanics that occur. That's why memorising mechanics is the best way for me to do well in any fight, so that I don't have to watch the screen while I watch my hotbars.
The curse of being a clicker is that I cannot for the life of me build muscle memory for keybinds, and if I do, they have to be spells that I use often, like my M4 button and my E key for tanks - which stand for my dash/short mitigation ability and my ranged enmity generator, respectively - or my Mudras on Ninja.
---------

This devolved from a blog speaking about what I think about the average player and where their interests lie, to one in where I justify my disinterest in doing high-end content. Tangential? Probably. Hypocritical? Certainly.

But hey, I've always been known to direct a discussion to myself, most of the time.
---------

That's all I wanted to say for now.
Stay safe, my fellow Warriors of Light.

Hello fellow casual player. I too have no patience for such useless uncountable wipe. I think play your way, I was invited to savage and ultimates raid many times but I refuse. Simply because I just don't see the point of it.

As someone who is casual and had dabbled in savages, I honestly don't think it is worth it.

It is very, VERY hard and takes sooooo much time to do prog. And it is VERY boring doing the same mechanics over, and OVER again progging.

Savages are simply for the young who have no real RL time commitments and can prog for 12+ hours a week or older people who have a relatively easy life for the most part. And even then, I only do it once a week cause more than 3 hours is just TOO much pain!
