I see this on the forums constantly, 'healing is soooo boring,' and I think to myself, why? What are they doing or NOT doing that I am? WHY do they think healing is such a boring thing to do?

You see people, I NEVER think healing is boring when I do it. It does not matter whether I am in something high or something low. I may sometimes struggle if I feel I am overtaxed, but I am never bored doing it. Yes people, even with small pulls or low stuff like Sastasha.

Why is this? Why am I not bored even if I am not taxed as a healer, no one is getting hurt, and I don't have to do much? Because people, I DON'T feel that I ALWAYS have to be doing something and I can FIND something to do when I decide I want to do something.

After the initial pull what does one tend to do as a healer? Of course size up the situation, see how much healing needs to be done and go to work doing it. If people are not taking much damage, then you help DPS the creatures. It's a standard thing to do, heal if needed, dps if not.

Sometimes you are not needed much at all if the DPS is very good, and that is OK. You do not have to be busy ALL the time, relax and enjoy the ride, have a little fun running around doing silly things. Just be ready to work when needed. And even when you are working but using few spells, do stuff while doing it. I love running around, never standing still, casting DOTS on every monster I can hit. Going here and there, casting stuff as fast as I can as I keep everyone topped off on life. I find it fun to do and it is a LOT better then just standing in one place hitting one button.

Also, if you are with friends and things are slow and mellow, TALK! Chat up some, comment on things, make lively conversation. Pretty much chances are that if you are not taxed, the others are not either. Don't get TOO into it though or you may find you missed those bars going unexpectedly low. ;-)

You know, thinking about people being bored healing made me realize that if the healer is bored, what about the poor tank. I mean after he's got all the creatures on him, there is nothing really left to do but stand there, take the hits, and use whatever dps abilities he has. NO running around, NO doing silly stuff, though it would be easy to chat if there is any chatting. Thinking that, no wonder they pull everything they can sometimes, they must find dungeons REALLY boring usually.

I guess this is why people also usually want to DPS, not for the limited responsibility, but for the fact that you are always DOING something! Those monsters NEED to be killed, so get to it, quick, quick, quick, USE those abilities!

But as a WHM, I find I always can find something to do. My DPS is decent and I have heals galore. I am not a fancy healer with multiple tricks and abilities. Medica 2 , Aero, and throwing crap are my 'bread and butter', and are ALWAYS useful. Maybe THAT'S why people who heal find themselves so bored, they don't get to use their little 'tricks' to their full extent. Pets do the scholars work in a lot of the stuff and cards don't do much for AST these days, so they get bored easier. They want to be pushing buttons galore like a DPS, using stuff left and right. Well people, dungeons aren't really designed for that unless it's equal level to you or'shit hits the fan' for some reason, then you WILL find yourself working as you should be.

So what does one do as a bored healer? Well that is up to YOU. You can A. quit healing out of protest because you are soooo bored all the time.. B. Moan, groan, bitch and just deal with that mind numbing healing, or C. try to find a way to make it more fun and interesting for you. Think outside the box, try different things, hell, try TALKING to see if conversation can be sparked. It will make things different and may even make the run, you know, enjoyable to you.
