To find ways to challenge me in the game. I recently joined a Discord group, 'Dirty Casuals', that runs older content at MINE level. For those that don't know, M.I.N.E means Minimum, I-level, No, Echo. Which of course means these runs are ran at the original difficulty when they first came out.
The group runs all kind of stuff, from older 8 and 24 man raids to EX trials and dungeons, all MINE. They use Discord for the call outs and set up times for the runs to be held.
Well, last week there was a run for Sophia EX. Now I like this particular fight and leaped at the chance to get to do it in it's original difficulty since I only ever got to see it unsynced back in the stormblood days. So I volunteered to go in as a healer role as White Mage, got accepted, and it was set.
Tue night rolls around and we get ready to go. Now, of course I watched a video to prepare me for what was to come up and I was kind of nervous. MTQ's video showed a LOT of stuff happening especially with those tilts, so I hoped I was up to snuff.
Luckily, the one running the run was quite experienced with it and knew where to go and what to avoid. The first try was a wipe as we were getting the hang of it and the experts were working the rust off. The 2nd try though was perfect with us getting the clear. Yep, did it MINE level in TWO attempts! Yay!
The call outs helped a LOT and probably made this much easier than if there were none. The guy knew his stuff, especially how to stand for the tilting, so we we were perfectly positioned to avoid a lot of nasty stuff.
Oh don't get me wrong, it was STILL insane, with a LOT of crap happening to keep track of, especially in the 3rd phase. But these were people, including me, used to the craziness of EX mechanics, so did not panic and do dumb stuff. Yeah, some DID still die, but the deaths were few and easily manageable. I think only one person actually fell off the platform.
To be honest, I was kind of surprised we finished so quickly, I was expecting at least a hour of trying. I had heard that Sophia was one of the easier of the heavensward EX primals to do and I guess people were right.
But hey, I can now say I did a PROPER clear on Sophia EX, that makes 2 HW EX's I have done at original difficulty, the other being space whale.
Next up, a Coils 1 run at MINE starting next Sunday night with a static I joined. We'll do one a week through all the Coil fights. We'll see how I do! ;p
Coincidentally, I signed up for a separate free trial account couple months ago and joined Syncademny. We are re-doing the old fight at min IL, sometime with or without echo depends on how many people are totally new to it. I have a level cap on the free trial account, so I can't join their Omega raid, but I am happy that I can re-do those ARR/HW raid at, I guess MINE level?
When I officially resub in 6.0 I will probably have a lot of stories to share.
If you are enjoying doing the fights Sigurd, why not just resub for t least a month? You could also catch up on current stuff like the battlefield and get it done.
If you guys use callouts over there, having the Echo running kind of waters it down. I am sure you probably have expert callers in the runs, and that kind of lowers the difficulty in and of itself.
The truth is if I re-sub, I will do a lot other things and ignore my life irl. I will think again if I manage to clear A8s with them. We have a group forming, and I am really looking forward to it.
We did use echo on Nidhogg Ex last time. We had a few new people. It was hard to recover if people mess up position in the last phase, die and can't stack for Ahk Morn. Some of us against using it, but at the moment I just go with the flow.
