Drippy!

公開
Walking as briskly as we could, we made our way to the Noumenon, with Y'shtola musing how close the instructions she imagined might have always been only a few yalms away from where she was napping.

Upon arriving, we were guided by an index page mammet to the restricted section. It was a surprisingly small room, with walls lined with books and books in shelves of pillars. A single table was in the middle, with a set of candles that burned and one of those things that hold sheet music, I think?

I read an untitled goldsmith's journal, that talked of a beautiful voidsent creature and the author's love for it- an interesting thing to have in the restricted section, but understandable I guess? A weighty tome, Primal Disquisitions, pondered of the possibilities of what sort of primal could emerge from aether should one believe in an almighty omniscience- could a man-made god truly be all knowing? Such things to ponder... I soon found the Epiphanies of House Daemir, the actual tome we were looking for, in a leather-bound log. I carried it back to Y'shtola to find her engrossed in the first book she picked up.

Y'shtola recognized the signature, and we read the tome together. It spoke of the ranks of voidsent, and how the species "Atomos" was unique, with expelling an endless procession of voidborn creatures from its distended jaw... They surmised that the entity itself was acting as a voidgate, and captured a small version to study, which led to the findings that the entity absorbed a planar fissure into its flesh, allowing it to expand as a gate. Further analysis showed there was an aetherial wave pattern admitted during this process, and they were able to emulate it by passing crystal-stored aether through a specifically designed prism. Embedding the prism into an arcane simulacrum allowed them to make their own artificial Atomos. Y'shtola knocked herself for being blind to the possibilities, as this species had already been discussed in academics for years.

Having unearthed the volume we were looking for, as much as we wished to stay and sneak more browsing, we walked out satisfied enough. Since building an Atomos was a bit out of our expertise, we headed to the Great Work to speak with Nidhana.

Nidhana, to say the least, was extremely excited to become involved in the project. She asked what we intended to do with it, and we told her of the secret voidgate in the bottom of the Bounty. Requesting to see the gate for herself to truly get an account of what she was dealing with, Y'shtola agreed, saying she'd petition Vrtra to join us, and asked me to get a flask of astrally infused water. Nidhana recommended the waters at the Font of Maya. Oh, to think of how it was last I was there, diving in to save a baby.

I returned to find the others already there, Estinien also in tow, and he told me that Mehrahd was glad to hear of the foundation. I handed Y'shtola the flask, which she said should suffice, and our little party was off back to the Bounty, but with arrangements made by Vrtra this time.

Y'shtola set out her ingredients before the steps to the gate, wishing to test G'raha's hypothesis of a warding scale that would confer protection from the void's corrupting influence. Estinien noted it was an experiment of sorts, and she turned to us to ask how we would ascertain the efficiency of a warding scale. I suggested sending a familiar, and Y'shtola complimented me for paying attention.

Saying how she wished it hadn't come to this, she summoned small familiars she once made up as a child. Estinien thought she was possessed as she sang her little rhyming spell. Nidhana called it adorable. She gave one a warding scale, and said that they would be used to see the differences in protection, and ordered Estinien to keep Nidhana safe. She told me to be on my guard also, and I said froth and foam- to which she threatened to shrink me down to their size to traverse the Thirteenth as well.

She send the nixies, as she called them, into the void, and we waited until she decided it was long enough. One came back seemingly fine, while the other reeked of corruption, Nidhana noting that its essence was irrevocably warped... Then voices boomed from the other side, demanding the gate to open, and voidsents attempted to break through. Vrtra managed to seal the gate before any slipped through.

She told her nixies to rest and unmade them, taking back the talisman. Estinien surmised that G'raha was correct, but Y'shtola noted that the talisman showed signs of degradation, and how it might need to have adjustments made. Estinien asked what exactly was the Thirteenth, and Y'shtola explained that it was a reflection of the Source that was drowned in a flood of darkness. As Emet once said, it was due to the Ascians' attempts to force a rejoining, and the error they made in haste turned the world into a "useless void".

I told my experience from the NOAH expedition, and Vrtra noted this was why he didn't wish to encourage us. Y'shtola assured it was but a step in our journey. She intended to work on refining the talisman, and Nidhana wished to work on the artificial Atomos. Vrtra and Nidhana left for the archives of the satrap, and Y'shtola turned to Estinien, offering if he'd like to go to the void with us. He declined, stating he had no interest personally, and something else to do.

Y'shtola and I decided to consult Garlond Ironworks on refining the scale, and headed to Rhalgr's Reach next.
