I Will Fight The Twelve And Win

公開
Upon returning to Old Sharlayan, I met with a fresh-faced student who was assisting Krile- that thing she needed help with that G'raha and I promised to help with after our journey... I learned quickly that the paperwork was sorted by now, and Krile received a request from Rammbroes, something about uncharted territory. She wished for us to meet him and learn more.

I arrived in Mor Dhona, and G'raha and Rammbroes arrived right after. Rammbroes quickly moved onto the topic, telling of a explorer who claimed to find a phantom realm. G'raha explained that there was a legend of a realm that appears as a mirage... Apparently there was evidence, the reason we were called here to investigate.

We went to meet with Deryk, the explorer who would guide us. The only thing I found in the area... was a baby opo-opo? G'raha walked up with a man and told me that wasn't the guide, and he found him. Deryk mentioned how he found him injured and tended to him, so now the baby opo-opo follows him around.
G'raha noted how the commission wasn't accepted yet, and we were to conduct a preliminary survey. Deryk bade us to follow him and began walking on water... telling us it was safe, and surprised by my remark of Urianger's spell. I stepped out on the water, and... it held me. We followed Deryk into a mysterious hidden portal between some rocks...

We walked into the phantom realm. G'raha noted how it all felt... real. It was indeed the phantom realm, all just in Silvertear Lake. Deryk bid us welcome to the navel of the phantom realm: the Omphalos, as he called it. The place appeared so well-kept, and yet, not a soul around, even though man-made structures existed.

From a vantage point, I could see the Crystal Tower, but we definitely couldn't see this in the sky... but the gate was definitely some kind of teleporter. G'raha deemed we were in some sort of, displacement, at the least, as this place shouldn't have survived the battle back in the day unscathed. The marks of the Twelve were everywhere also, and G'raha deemed it a place of worship.

G'raha deemed it also a worthwhile investigation, and decided to return to Sharlayan. Suddenly, a voice telling us to hold, and insisted we answer for our presence. The Divine themselves... Byregot, the builder, introduced himself, claiming that in Hydaelyn's abscence, they are the star's rightful rulers. A spirited woman's voice told us that they determined me as posing a threat to their ascension. A sagely man warned how they could easily destroy me now, for being foolish enough to wander into their realm... but as divinities, they must demonstrate grace and forbearance. They would weigh my worth... G'raha protested, but they didn't work like mortals or whatever. I must assemble comrades to prove that man would remain the master of his own destiny...

With that challenge, they returned back to their little houses, and Deryk was shocked to say the least. G'raha said how he felt something was off, and I chimed in with how Gaius called the Twelve primals before. To say the least, it still called for an investigation... G'raha decided he'd work behind the scenes, and I gathered 23 other adventurers to challenge the gods.

We defeated them, of course. They revealed they merely wished to test us, and they weren't primals either... I didn't feel any maliciousness. According to G'raha, it didn't seem like they were, but they may be more akin to Venat's creation of Hydaelyn than that of regular primals. Krile decided to formally accept the investigation.

G'raha told me of a plan as Krile went to look over the place herself. He noted how the Twelve were already worshiped in the Third Astral Era- during the Allagan Empire. It was the Fifth Astral Era, during the War of the Magi where each nation who fought took one of the Twelve as their guardian deity- but today some hold their deities as absolute, while others are more moderate. He suggested we visit each place of worship to learn more, and begin our journey with Rhalgr's Reach.

I headed to Rhalgr's Reach and waited at the place of worship- Deryk and G'raha arrived shortly after. G'raha reminisced on how this place was also the base for the Omega investigations. Deryk noted that G'raha seemed to enjoy traveling with company, which G'raha agreed, and I seconded enjoying traveling with friends. G'raha asked if Deryk traveled alone generally, to which he replied yes, but also wouldn't avoid communities in general. In his musings, he realized phantom sightings usually occurred in places with a tradition of worship of the Twelve. G'raha gave us a quick Rhalgr's Reach lore, then we separated to ask the locals of their deity.

We stood in front of the alter, so I looked upon the words that Lyse once explained- to prepare for the strife and sorrows that will inevitably come.

I wandered around and met a scholarly woman who was meeting with Majorie, who I escorted to the Temple of the Fist long ago, and I told her I was studying the Destroyer this time. She gave me a copy of Destructivity, a scripture of the Fist that survived the temple's razing- Widargelt discovered it himself! Apparently, it was made for her colleague, the scholar, but she didn't need it as she was just assisting as a favor.

Lastly, I found Deryk speaking with an amicable resistance fighter, who wished to hear more of our stories, and Deryk pleaded him to share his own of the Destroyer's lore. Deryk insisted he'd take it from here, so I waited back our designated location. We reunited shortly and I handed G'raha the book as I recounted my tales.

As he skimmed it, he noted a chapter that looked to be a record of the construction of Rhalgr's image, and a tale of how they were guided by a comet- some refugees claiming to have caught sight of Rhalgr himself. He considered how the account could explain everyone having an image of Rhalgr- but it fails to mention what inspired the likeness, as they would've needed to all agree on his appearance beforehand to recognize him. It was also likely they existed before the Third Astral Era.

Deryk questioned how whether these beings gave rise to their faiths, or if they were primals born of them. He suddenly heard Rhalgr's voice, who told us again how they weren't summoned beings. A hawk with his voice appeared, accompanied by a spriggan. He told us how since time immemorial, they had their domains, so of course people glimpsed them. The spriggan spoke with Byregot's voice, telling us how they assumed disguises to observe the world without violating their laws of conduct. Their domains were also disguised similarly- but when aether is unstable, a gifted mortal nearby can catch a sight. G'raha noted how Umbral Calamities make it the ideal condition to see them- and Rhalgr chimed how it was a sound assumption, but they themselves had no way of knowing how many times they've been seen. They apologized for the earlier deception and flew away. G'raha considered how they were surprisingly approachable.

He also noted how in his research, Ramuh was similar to Rhalgr, and it might be from phantom Rhalgr's inspiration- such as their divergence being the difference in cultures between man and sylph. Deryk asked if he believed that they gave rise to the faiths, and G'raha said he was inclined to, but it still didn't sum up how they came into existence.

Krile called with an acquaintance to aid us, and G'raha went to the Sunken Temple of Qarn to receive her, and asked us to make inquiries in Ul'dah. Deryk wasn't too thrilled with G'raha ditching, but nonetheless, we went to get ready to leave for Ul'dah.
