Before the Calamity, Maximillian wanted only to live in peace and prosperity, find a wife who would bare his kits, and be a father of not three of four, but twenty. Since the calamity has destroyed his origin village, and many of the friends or family he ever had have since passed through Thal's gates, he has become fervently committed to ending the rule of the Garlean empire. There can be no rest without restitution, and having been too weak then to help, he now focuses on becoming powerful enough to defend the next place with which he may call home.
