A young Lalafell from Gridania, Aelene was, from a young age, praised for doing very little. Her doting parents overfed her on compliments during childhood, and as her schooling began, the compliments only intensified. Aelene turned out to be a rather gifted child through sheer luck, picking up on concepts and lessons quickly, much to the joy of her loving parents.
Unfortunately, as she matured, her attitude did not. Always used to being number one, Aelene grew quickly resentful of anyone who didn't feed her the compliments and praise she so desired. After the Calamity, she learned basic conjuration, and, feeding on the happiness and relief it brought others (and the praise it brought her), she continued down that path, and her adventuring days began. Despite having quite the sour personality to those she first meets, she becomes rather loyal to those who know and respect her, even if they can be a little quick to take advantage of her weakness to compliments, though she is none the wiser. She only has good intentions, despite her attitude and personality.
