A miqo'te born in Ala Mhigo shortly before the Garlean invasion. His father was killed in the fighting, and as a result, other children spread nasty rumors about his mother. She had him smuggled out when he was still a child and he grew up in a Gridanian orphanage. After leaving to find himself, he returned to Eorzea out of a sense of duty. R'tahn is a brilliant magitek engineer, and would have been a brilliant mage, if not for the fact that he is unable to use magic himself. He is working on magitek devices to replicate the effects of spells, but his proudest achievements are in the field of machinistry.
(Any and all magic-using classes are basically not canon to R'tahn as a character, I'm just doing them for fun and to get the stories.)
