A retired Vana'dielian Red Mage, Sorel finds himself thrust by unknown powers into the war-torn world of Hydaelyn. He suspects the balance of power is unstable due to the lack of Red and Blue magic among the free peoples of Eorzea, and is convinced that the re-establishment of those disciplines will lead to the restoration of a lasting peace in this land. Sorel has re-united with his long-time friend and rival, Darium, also a refugee from Vana'diel and an expert in Blue magic. Working with a company of other former Vana'dielians, they hope to find the lost secrets of their magical arts in time to save Eorzea and its people.
