Marya Adrienllwyn knows that her names were inherited from her grandmother, and a small island in the Indigo Deep, and that's about it. None of her family's names fit the known Roegadyn language, really. Only her grandfather can speak anything other than the common tongue, but the few words he remembers are unintelligible to everyone else in Limsa Lominsa.
Her family descends from raiders and traders of Farreach and the Indigo Deep, most of them bastards, orphans, and runaways. Marya herself lives independently like her mercenary ancestors, to the mixed feelings of her parents who settled in Limsa Lominsa to avoid the escalating violence of their Dravanian neighbors.
How much of her family history before that point is true, and how much of it is invention, nobody can say. Marya's surviving grandfather is a notorious prankster and joker, and the other was philandering liar. Both of her grandmothers were runaways - one was supposedly disowned by her siblings after their parents died, and the other fled an arranged marriage. If their collected tales are to be believed, then Marya's parents are the first to hold steady, honest jobs in at least five generations. At this point, nobody gives a wharf rat's ass what the truth is as long as the family history sounds exciting at the bar.
