Swyrkeim Fraewyn is a Sea Wolf Roegaydn born on Aerslaent in 1552. She left to join her father's pirate crew as a teenager, raiding ships in the Northern Empty and the Bloodbrine Sea. They were at sea when the Calamity struck and as far as she knows, Swyrkeim was the only survivor. She spent a few years traveling, looking for a new calling to follow. Limsa Lominsa was her first stop, only to discover that piracy had been outlawed just a few years before.
Swyrkeim took her first "legit" job there, spending a few months on the crew of one of the many ships importing beasts back to The Cieldalaes for the Grand Companies' joint training. When the work began to taper off, she joined up with a crew that had been paid by the coeurl tamers of The Pearl to bring some new specimens to the island. The Pearl is a beautiful island, but it lacked any of the sorts of establishments Swyr enjoyed, so she once again found a ship crew to join, this time based off the nearby island of Mazlaya.
Mazlaya was the first place that felt like home since the Calamity for Swyr. She made friends and ended up forming her own crew. She became the First Mate, as the boat itself was owned by the Captain. They made themselves a nuisance towards the Garleans in Ala Mhigo and smuggled supplies to the oppressed Ala Mhigans. They were still pirates of course, and didn't only attack Garleans, but they were certainly the best sport and spoils to be had in the area.
Swyrkeim spent a few years relatively blissfully with the crew. She swapped skills with other pirates and locals, picking up archery and carpentry while sharing her knowledge of fisticuffs and cooking. In 1577, the crew attacked a Garlean ship and easily claimed several crates of goods. Unfortunately for them, this ship was a small vessel sent ahead of a larger fleet. The Empire had found something important in Ala Mhigo and were coming to claim it. Everyone but the captain made it back to Mazlaya safely, but their ship sank half a malm from land. As the new Acting Captain, Swyrkeim took it upon herself to head to the mainland of Eorzea to earn enough coin to buy a new ship.
