Hi. I’m Shalan’a. My mom is Shallan Renaj, the so-called Warrior of Light who saved Eorzea and the rest of the star a few hundred times. I grew up hearing everybody retelling her stories all the time. By the Twelve, it must be nice for everyone to love and praise you constantly.
My dad is Zenos, the Garlean ruler that everyone hates and fears. Everyone except my mom, apparently. Top that off with inheriting the Allagan eye from Uncle Raha, and I wouldn’t call my childhood precisely pleasant.
Sure, all of mom’s closest friends showered me with love, but everyone else? The moment any adult learned I was half-Garlean, they would glare at me like I was some kind of bug. And if they ever learned who my dad really is, they’d usually either run away screaming or try to kill me.
And that had nothing on how the other kids treated me. They’d bully me about my eye, about my dad, about being the son of a hero. Any reason they could find really. So I didn’t really have a lot of friends until adolescence. Then when I finally did start making friends, Mom didn’t approve of them. *sigh* She said she broke Keeper tradition by altering the spelling of my name in order to remind me that I’m my own person rather than either of my parents, but then she tries to hold me to her crazy standards!
Sorry about the rant. We just had a fight, and now it seems like I’m stuck in an endless dream. I seems like I’m reliving her heroic exploits. Maybe this is some kind of Echo vision like she told me about, and like I’ve seen her have in this dream. It sure is surreal...
