T'khot was born in The Black Shroud, in a village near Gridania, as the son of a woman of the T tribe and a tia who fell in love and left their group to go live as a couple.
His first contact with a book came early in his life, and made him beg and pester his parents to teach him the letters. Said parents, having their hands full just keeping the household afloat, and being illiterate themselves, begged in turn the local conjurer to take up the task. T'khot was an excellent student, and since then has seldom been seen without a book on his person.
Unfortunately, being the only Miqo'te child in the village and a timid, introverted individual to boot made him the ideal target for every kind of bullying and abuse. There was however one kid, a Midlander boy, who would actively ask him to play together and get him away from the bullies. And so they grew up together, almost inseparable, even though they were as different as the Sun and Moon. So close they were, that T'khot took on using his best friend's surname - Soulblaze - as his own, since he had always wondered why he was the only one without a family name.
This went on until the time of farewells came - first, the Seventh Umbral Calamity claimed the lives of both his parents, then his friend left the village to become an adventurer. For a brief time, he made a living by being a helping hand for anyone who asked, from chopping wood to carrying luggage, until one day his burgeoning desire to travel and expand his knowledge could not be contained anymore and, not having any ties left with his own birthplace, he set on a journey to discover the world and become a student of the magic arts... and help those he met along the way. But fate is ever unpredictable, and that last part of his propositions would take almost completely over his quest for knowledge... even though, to be fair, it also provided plenty of occasions to travel to far away lands and delve into the unknown.
The Echo T'khot started having Echo visions around the time he turned twenty. He not only saw flashes of events past, but felt the same feelings as the subject of the Echo, were it joy or (more often) pain and anguish. That is one of the reasons why he's so eager to help everyone he meets - because he can't bear ignoring the plight of others and only by easing their burdens can he have some manner of inner peace.
