I didn't think it was possible but we did it. We had a capable paladin tanking Aiatar, a dragoon who knew who to dance, and a bard who could keep the right tunes. It's really incredible when you get to witness such a coordinated group bring a boss down as poetically as we did a few days back. I was astonished to see that, as a Scholar healer, I had 90% of my mp remaining at the end with an active Aetherflow up to use.
If anyone's having trouble here's what I can recommend that should help you through what could be the toughest obstacle you face as you get to this point in the main storyline:
-Make sure your tank manages where the poison pools are going to be lobbed. Obviously the tank can't manage all of them, as they are shot randomly at some party members, so inform the party not to stand in places that would make a poison pool deadly (too far apart from the other pools, in the middle of the room, etc). Unfortunately placed pools are death knells for a party.
-Ensure your tank knows this boss regens hp while in the pool! Having to frantically type "AH POOL RUN OUT AH" can get people killed.
-Since I've only healed this dungeon as a Scholar I'll tell you this: not having an AoE heal in this dungeon can be rough. The constant poison will really keep you on your toes. Solution? Micromanage your fairy. If you haven't learn to do so yet, now is definitely the time. Physically make your fairy use its very nice and very free heal on damage dealers while you continue to focus on the tank when you can. This is how I was able to end with so much ridiculous mp. Instinct heal based on where you think damage is about to land and abuse your fairy like a communal washing machine.
Generally this is what we did, which shouldn't be too far from what most of you do, and we cleared this dungeon with a success rate of 80% for the boss fight. Whelp I'll be happy to give further advice or clarify some points, regardless have fun you crazy adventurers!
Great article on mechanics and hints about this dungeon! Hope there will be more. I'm also open for discussion about strategies.
Thanks Shigeru! Honestly I felt like this is the first dungeon where communication was absolutely necessary. Beforehand having a tank who doesn't mark targets was manageable or if your conjurer was running kind of low pulls should have been staved off, but blindly fighting this boss and not talking about how to deal with the mechanics of this boss will end the runs fairly fast for most people. I feel for all of those poor souls stuck in the pangs of pug groups.
Thank you for the tips! I'm a scholar and I was horrified to find out I can't cure poison until 40 so I was worried about running this dungeon! Fortunately at least I have swift cast in the case that I need to quickly res someone
Thank you for the insight. It's really frustrating to be stuck in this dungeon. I've done 2 runs on this dungeon now with no luck. I always run out of MP. I tried my best to heal as efficiently as I can, but it's hard when the other members do not coordinate. I even had one BM tell me that they died because my healing sucks. I've already equipped whatever I could to have the highest heal possible...
How does a Scholar compensate for not having Esuna in this dungeon, given the poison stacks that occur during the battle with Aiatar at the end, to say little of the poison and status effects in the other boss battles.
First Team gave bad advice for me to use place command. Too much micro management. Dps stuck together; got hurt a lot. Had to heal too much; we lost four times. Second team, kept faire at steady; ordered her when to use whispering dawn when needed; kept her at steady again. Kept close enough for faire to heal tank and kept near the wall. Easier healing method. Tank was better and dps was spread out and did better to avoid too much damage. Was hard but overall we did much better and won.
