I'm bored at work, so here's a story about my first time tanking CT.
I hit 50 with my BLM and SMN fairly soon after CT was released, so it seemed like a great place to gear up while collecting Myth. I didn't mind the queue times (do you see the levels of my DoL classes?) but I was kinda frustrated when I would look through the PF and only see openings for healers and tanks. I've already mentioned in a previous post that I don't like healing, so I would take my parties where I could find them and DF the rest of the time. Thankfully, I haven't run in to any troublesome parties. I've only wiped twice in CT and both were because the comets were all destroyed during Behemoth. So I'm not as jaded as most.
So, one day this week, I open up PF for the 4th time and see a party near the top with an open tank slot. They had been there a long time and only needed that one slot filled. So I threw myself and my i86 WAR in there and we got started. I did a quick look at the other tanks and saw that me and my co-tank were the most geared tanks in there. If that weren't the "best" part, the first pull immediately reveals a troll tank in one of the other alliances. Valefor's tail swipe covered half the arena and almost wiped the raid before it went down. Whatever. The first few pulls are usually a mess and most of the bosses force the alliances to divide anyway.
We make it to Bone Dragon without issue. My co-tank volunteers to take the dragon and we start managing the skeleton. Not knowing the common strategy for tanks other than "pull to the end of a spoke" I think to myself that it'd be easier to coordinate if the other tanks all "claimed" a spoke and pulled to that spoke. So, I claimed a spoke and looked at the other tanks...who had all claimed their spokes too! The fight went flawlessly. No one fought for agro, all the skeletons revived with Heavy, and no one died.
Fast-forward to KB. My co-tank volunteers to take the Giant, and troll-tank volunteers to take KB. My party immediately begins shouting that I should take KB instead, both to avoid the troll and because I'm better geared. So, I took KB and troll-tank took a tower. The fight is a lot more intense from the side of KB's face. I had seen a lot of MTs die in this fight, so I was expecting the worst. Of course, it was cake. Dodge Trounce, dodge Charybdis (sp?), hope that there's a comet close to you when Meteor lands, and smack KB around with your axe. My party thanked me for saving them from troll-tank and we finished the rest without issue.
The downside if I try this again is that I REALLY want the caster body, which I can't need on while tanking.
Yea most of the tanking is CT is a bit of a joke. The dungeon isnt really hard, its relying on the 16-23 other people to not be trolls / terrible. That said sounds like you had a better experience then most. Took me forever to get Crimson Vest as well, and I had the same issue - queuing to need and wait vs insta-que as tank and gamble on greed. Fortunately I was on a run with my FC as tank, so they let me have it when it finally drop. Keep trying, you'll get it!
I am still looking for my Crimson stuff! I think they should add more dps places. Since ya, healer and tanks click on DF button and 1 second-5minutes laters it dings to go in. As DPS it will ding 1 hour later, somedays after 2 hours of waiting you decide to go sleep or just go off. Maybe put for each team 4 more DPS in would help. Still, it would lower the chances of you getting the item, cause you might have 4 more clicking need. So... 2 treasure in each box maybe?
