I was asked to assist in what I was told was a simple murder investigation.
One body. One suspect. One afternoon.
I should have known better.
Within hours, I was chasing down a woman with madness in her eyes, aether in her veins, and an obsession with forbidden knowledge. The kind of obsession that leads to ritual circles and shadows that breathe.
Oh, and the house? Definitely haunted.
Whispering walls. Cold spots. Voidsent energy thick enough to chew. Real estate agents should be required to disclose this sort of thing.
Long story short: the Void got involved. Again. Because apparently, no one in this realm has learned the basic lesson: DON’T MESS WITH THE VOID.
Do not summon from it. Do not open to it. Do not think, “Oh maybe I’ll just peek into this cursed tome and see what happens.”
What happens is me, knee-deep in aetheric sludge, waving my staff at creatures that shouldn’t exist, while trying not to yell, “I told you so!” at someone currently floating six inches off the floor and hissing.
I survived. The madwoman… didn’t. The house? Still cursed, I’m pretty sure.
